Working from the familiar to the unfamiliar, this course will guide students to compose coherent and clear English paragraphs on a range of subjects, and in a variety of forms, suitable for integration into larger writing projects.  Students will write, revise and edit their own work, discuss each other’s writing to aid its improvement through peer-review and editing workshops, and reflect on their own progress.

Students will reflect on the importance, organization, and many rhetorical purposes of the paragraph, and practice planning, drafting, composing, revising and editing paragraphs for a range of rhetorical purposes. They will discover how to weigh crucial aspects including: order of information; coherence and clarity; audience and purpose; sentence length; choice and variety of diction; etc.
